Ben Lichius here again at Dark Unicorn Games to bring you another Super Powered Smash Masters artist spotlight! Let’s get to it!

Artist Spotlight #3: Dean Kotz

Dean Kotz and I have been collaborating on different comic-related projects for a long time now and I’ve always been a fan of his versatility, style, imagination, and spot-on craftsmanship. We first worked together on a book I wrote and co-created called The Black Coat. Dean drew the second series of that book and then, in 2013, we collaborated again on a crowd-funded follow-up graphic novel called ‘The Blackest Dye.’

Besides drawing tri-corn hats, Dean’s been a busy guy in the realm of independent comics – working on books like “Poe” (Boom), “Charmed” (Zenescope), “Krampus” (Image), “Hero of Alexandria” (Ape Entertainment), and “The Red Panda” (MonkeyBrain) among others. He’s also draws for books, games, and anywhere people are in need of awesome illustrations. He’s like a super-hero with a pencil. Righting wrongs and making the world safe for cool comics!

Dean’s not one to shy away from a challenge and I’ve always felt you could ask him to draw just about anything and he’d do it with style and pinache. Dean’s got a flare for pulp stories and his visual style – with his strong blacks and bold lines – lends itself well to the genre. When it came time to choose a hero to design for Super Powered Smash Masters, Dean didn’t hesistate at all to pick ‘Ghost Pirate’ and render him in all his pirate-y glory, complete with pirate hat and skeleton parrot. Ghost Pirate’s power is one of the funner magic abilities. He can attack anyone with an ‘R’ in their name… because… “Arrr!” His super power is trouble too. Ghost Pirate can choose one hero from each rival team to stun, and one stunned hero on his own team to revive! Spooky!

You can see more of Dean’s work HERE and on DeviantArt.com.

We’ll have more on Ghost Pirate later this week, so be sure to stop back and get the skinny on our skinless hero.

And we’ll have more cards and more artists spotlights to share too. Follow us on Facebook or sign up for the Newsletter to stay in the loop!

Smash ya’ later!
