Hello! Ben Lichius here again, writing from Dark Unicorn Games headquarters to bring you another Super Powered Smash Mastersartist spotlight! This one’s gonna be fun!

Artist Spotlight #6: Drew Rausch

The independent comic scene is full of artists with their own unique style or take on the world, but Drew Rausch is one of those rare talents that truly jumps out at you and grabs your attention. I say that partly because of his work, but also because if you met him at a convention, he might actually jump out and grab you – just to say ‘hi!’

I first met Drew back in 2005-ish. When I was publishing “The Black Coat” with Ape Entertainment, Drew was publishing his own take on the horror genre with a book called “Sullengrey” – also with Ape. We’ve shared convention booths on a number of occasions and he’s always had a vibrant, fun, and… twisted outlook that manifests itself in all of his work. Those qualities, along with his one-of-a-kind imagination, made Drew a great choice for SPSM. We’ll come back to that in a second.

Besides “Sullengrey” and the convention circuit, Drew has always kept himself busy – carving out his own bat and cobweb-filled niche in the comic book world. He’s worked for Boom Studios on “Cthulu Tales” and “Zombie Tales”, Slave Labor Graphics on the “Haunted Mansion” anthology, as well as books for Vertigo and Tokyopop. His most recent work can be found in the pages of IDW’s “Edward Scissorhands” – which I honestly think Tim Burton made as a movie just so that all these years later, Drew could be the artist on the book. He’s a perfect fit.

Speaking of great matches, when it came time for Drew to choose a hero to design for SPSM, he wasted no time and went directly for “Battle Clown!” Battle Clown is our twisted gadget hero with a path to justice that’s all his own and Drew brought him to life like no one else could. The results are a perfect blend of energy, humor, fun, and crazy – all the things we love about the world of Super Powered Smash Masters!

You can see more of Drew’s work, including the awesome webcomics “Eldritch!” and “My Blacks Don’t Match!” at DrewRausch.com.

As always, we’ll have more artists spotlights soon so be sure to follow us on Facebook or sign up for the Newsletter to stay in the loop!

Smash ya’ later!
